Ali's Diner: Concept Dev & Pitch

As part of production training, myself and another colleague were tasked with individually coming up with a concept for 'Ali's Diner'. Our manager pitched himself to us separately as Ali, and made it as difficult as he could for us to come up with a concept.

Part of the production process is about listening to the client, understanding what they want, and also offering ideas that support their vision. However, an important part of the briefing process is also learning when and how to say no to a client.

A break down of how I pitched my concept

The first thing I did was summarise the client's brief. This not about showing a Producer's ability to take notes, but rather a way to show the client that you were listening to what they said in the meeting. This establishes a sense of trust also.

Next, I proposed a concept and production idea that I thought would suit both the client and his company.

From here, I elaborated a bit more into what each commercial would contain, and even worked with my editor to produce a 'mock-up' commercial. I did this because I think my concept realised heavily on visuals rather than words, hence why it would make more sense to convince the client with visuals rather than just my explanations.

From here, the client was extremely excited about the concept and all I had to do was wrap with final costings.

Overall, the pitch was great and so was the concept. 'Ali' loved it and there were minimal notes for feedback.

You can see the full pitch below, as well as the mock-up commercials.
